PAPER BAG ORDINANCE in Baguio City

BAGUIO CITY – efforts in bringing back the title as ‘cleanest and greenest’ city is gaining ground with implementation of local environmental laws here.

MINI-CASINOS FLOURISHING IN BENGUET CAPITAL TOWN FOR YEARS

La Trinidad, Benguet  – Mini-casinos purportedly operated by a bakery operator known only as “Karate” remains unabated in La Trinidad, a  menace even Mayor Greg Abalos acknowledges as difficult to combat because of the deep connections of the operation with police and other influential officials in the province.

‘I know that operation,’ Mayor Abalos admits, ‘but it is very difficult to stamp out because everytime the Office of the Mayor attempts to swoop down on suspected joints,  we find nothing because they were earlier tipped.’

Balili River coalition convenes

STAKEHOLDERS from La Trinidad and Baguio City convened for river revitalization plan.
Environmental Management Bureau Cordilleras (EMB-CAR) Officer in Charge Oscar Cabanayan opened the forum followed by a presentation by the Banguet State University outlining the activities of the Balili River System Revitalization Coalition (BRSRC).

  

Envi bureau: No need for new SM talks

A WITNESS in the controversial SM mall expansion project case testified Friday there is no need for a public consultation prior to the granting of an amended Environmental Compliance Certificate (ECC).
Juan Miguel Cuna, Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Environmental Management Bureau (DENR-EMB) director, said the mall giant complied with all requirements of an amended Environmental Compliance Certificate issued last September 22, 2011 by submitting an Environmental Performance Report Management Plan (EPRMP).
